UN Decries Ongoing Ban on Girls’ Education in Afghanistan

On the International Day of Education, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) issued a statement condemning the Taliban’s continued ban on education for girls over the age of 12. The UN described the ban as both a “tragedy and travesty,” highlighting the detrimental impact on millions of Afghan girls and the country’s future.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, they have imposed strict regulations limiting women’s and girls’ access to education and employment. Despite international pressure, the Taliban has shown little indication of reversing these policies, leading to widespread condemnation from global human rights organizations.
