Media Initiatives Supporting Women’s Rights (Begum TV)

In January 2025, Begum TV, a satellite channel based in Paris, began broadcasting educational and entertainment programs specifically for Afghan women. Founded by Hamida Aman, the channel’s primary goal is to provide a lifeline for Afghan women who are confined to their homes under the Taliban regime. Amid political turmoil and restrictions, women’s access to education and freedom of expression has been severely curtailed in Afghanistan. Begum TV bridges this gap by offering school classes and covering topics that are otherwise censored within the country. This initiative offers crucial educational content, entertainment, and global connectivity that is vital for those who are isolated from the outside world. By providing uncensored programming and a platform for dialogue, Begum TV is seen as an act of defiance and a beacon of hope for many, contributing to the fight for gender equality and women’s rights in Afghanistan.
