Surveillance and Privacy Concerns

In August 2023, the Taliban initiated the installation of 62,000 security cameras across Kabul and other regions. While intended to enhance security, this extensive surveillance system has raised concerns about privacy and the potential for a total surveillance state. Matt Mahmoudi of Amnesty International highlighted the risks of such mass surveillance under the guise of national security, emphasizing the potential violations of fundamental rights, particularly for women in public spaces.
